This is the first post of the year! In this year I hope to realize my projects, when something become reality I’m going to tell you about this, but now this is secret!

Before the cristmas period, I went to have a trip around the little cities between Lazio and Abruzzo where my father in law have a little romantic house in Rocca di Botte! At Carsoli there is a shop-mill called “Molino Stoduto” where you can buy anything! They sell any type of flour, object for the cousine realized in wood, legumes, vegetable, spice and any type of pots and materials for the kitchen!

The most important thing in this place is the warmth and friendliness of the owner of the shop, who will accompany you in your purchases!

During my shopping I bought the peeled red lentils, this ingredient is very tasty, rich in protein and Omega-3, cholesterol free, and easy to digest that this peeled lentils are even recommended for infant and their first meals!

I have prepared with this a peeled red lentils flans with crispy bacon and sour cream, a very good side dish to accompany a grilled steak as we did!

ingredients for 4 people:

  • 200g red lentils peeled
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • 300 ml of vegetable broth
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon potato starch
  • 100 grams of sliced bacon
  • 150 g Sour cream
  • 6/8 tablespoons milk
  • butter and flour for the molds

material needed:

  • 4 monoportion molds

In a pan put the whole garlic clove previously crushed under the pressure of a knife, add a little olive oil and let it brown, add the lentils and cook for 5 minutes, then add the boiling broth, cover with the lid and cook until the vegetables are tender. Once cooked, remove the garlic, transferred to the glass of the blender and blend everything adding a little olive oil. Beat the egg in a bowl with salt and pepper, add it into the mixture of red lentils and stir adding also the starch. Grease and flour the mold and pour in the mixture.

Transfer the molds in a pan with cold water and cook in water bain in the oven for 25 minutes at 180°C/360°F . Make sure to keep the water level in the pan at the same height, or higer, of the compound in the molds otherwise the discovery part will be dry after cooking.water bain cooking

Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by simply diluting the sour cream with the hot milk, and fry the bacon strips in a nonstick pan until it becomes crispy.

Serve the lentils flans hot accompanied by the sour cream sauce and covered with crispy bacon!
